Abstract I discuss how parameters describing inflation in the very early universe may be related to primordial perturbation spectra. Precision observations of anisotropies in the cosmic microwave background (CMB) such as those provided by the WMAP satellite offer an unprecedented window onto the physics of the very early universe. To theorists exploring speculative models of physics at high energies, the CMB offers us the chance to put our ideas to the test.
Theoretical tools for CMB physics
This review presents, in a self–consistent manner, those analytical tools that are relevant for the analysis of the physics of CMB anisotropies generated in different theoretical models of the earlyExpand
Scale-dependent non-Gaussianity probes inflationary physics
We calculate the scale dependence of the bispectrum and trispectrum in (quasi) local models of non-Gaussian primordial density perturbations, and characterize this scale dependence in terms of newExpand
What does inflation really predict
If the inflaton potential has multiple minima, as may be expected in, e.g., the string theory 'landscape', inflation predicts a probability distribution for the cosmological parameters describingExpand
Semiclassical relations and IR effects in de Sitter and slow-roll space-times
We calculate IR divergent graviton one-loop corrections to scalar correlators in de Sitter space, and show that the leading IR contribution may be reproduced via simple semiclassical consistencyExpand
Primordial non-Gaussianity from mixed inflaton-curvaton perturbations
We characterise the primordial perturbations produced due to both inflaton and curvaton fluctuations in models where the curvaton has a quadratic, cosine or hyperbolic potential, and the inflatonExpand

Adiabatic CMB perturbations in pre - big bang string cosmology
Abstract We consider the pre-Big-Bang scenario with a massive axion field which starts to dominate energy density when oscillating in an instanton-induced potential and subsequently reheats theExpand
Correlated perturbations from inflation and the cosmic microwave background.
It is found that there is a degeneracy between the amplitude of correlated isocurvature perturbations and the spectral tilt, and estimates of the baryon and CDM densities are found to be almost independent of the isocURvature amplitude. Expand
Observational test of two-field inflation
We study adiabatic and isocurvature perturbation spectra produced by a period of cosmological inflation driven by two scalar fields. We show that there exists a model-independent consistencyExpand
Primordial density perturbation in the curvaton scenario
We analyze the primordial density perturbation when it is generated by a “curvaton” field different from the inflaton. In some cases this perturbation may have large isocurvature components, fullyExpand
Observational constraints on the curvaton model of inflation
Simple curvaton models can generate a mixture of correlated primordial adiabatic and isocurvature perturbations. The baryon and cold dark matter isocurvature modes differ only by an observationallyExpand
Effects of cosmological moduli fields on cosmic microwave background
Abstract We discuss effects of cosmological moduli fields on the cosmic microwave background (CMB). If a modulus field φ once dominates the universe, the CMB we observe today is from the decay of φExpand
Limit on the detectability of the energy scale of inflation.
We show that the polarization of the cosmic microwave background can be used to detect gravity waves from inflation if the energy scale of inflation is above 2x10(15) GeV. These gravity wavesExpand
First-Year Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe (WMAP)* Observations: Implications For Inflation
We confront predictions of inflationary scenarios with the Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe (WMAP) data, in combination with complementary small-scale cosmic microwave background (CMB)Expand
Generating the curvature perturbation without an inflaton
We present a mechanism for the origin of the large-scale curvature perturbation in our Universe by the late decay of a massive scalar field, the curvaton. The curvaton is light during a period ofExpand
Adiabatic and entropy perturbations from inflation
We study adiabatic ~curvature! and entropy ~isocurvature! perturbations produced during a period of cosmological inflation that is driven by multiple scalar fields with an arbitrary interactionExpand
