A possible equivalence of scalar dark matter, the inflaton, and modified gravity is analyzed. After a conformal mapping, the dependence of the effective Lagrangian on the curvature is not only singular but also bifurcates into several almost Einsteinian spaces, distinguished only by a different effective gravitational strength and cosmological constant. A swallow tail catastrophe in the bifurcation set indicates the possibility for the coexistence of different Einsteinian domains in our…

Axion-like scalar fields with their periodic potential are analyzed as a toy model of dark matter halos. Here, solitons collison of the well-known kinks in (1 + 1) spacetime dimensions are mapped to

Study of General Relativity and $f(R)$ Modified Gravity with Cosmological Constant for Einstein and Jordan Frames

This thesis investigates a toy model for inflation in a class of modified theories of gravity in the metric formalism. Instead of the standard procedure -- assuming a non-linear Lagrangian $f(R)$ in

On dark energy and accelerated reference frames

The paper is devoted to an explanation of the accelerated rate of expansion of the Universe. Usually the acceleration of the Universe, which is described by FRW metric, is due to dark energy. It is

Thermodynamics of f(R) theories of gravity

This paper starts from a toy model for inflation in a class of modified theories of gravity in the metric formalism. Instead of the standard procedure—assuming a non-linear Lagrangian f(R) in the

From general relativity, to axionic-dark-matter-induced inflationary cosmology, and holographic graphene

This thesis explores the expansive world of General Relativity, and its role to play in modern cosmology and quantum field theory. We begin with a pedagogical approach to relativity, in particular,

A decade ago, a Lagrangian density has been proposed by the author where only the local symmetries of the Lorentz subgroup of (A)ds group is retained. This formalism has been found to produce some

Exact Axially Symmetric Solution in f ( T ) Gravity Theory

A general tetrad field with sixteen unknown functions is applied to the field equations of f(T) gravity theory. An analytic vacuum solution is derived with two constants of integration and an angle Φ

Linear stability of spherically symmetric and wormhole solutions supported by the sine-Gordon ghost scalar field

In this paper we investigate wormhole and spherically symmetric solutions in four-dimensional gravity plus a matter source consisting of a ghost scalar field with a sine-Gordon potential. For the

Dark matter problem and effective curvature Lagrangians

A ‘radical’ conservative unifying model of scalar dark matter and modified gravity is proposed here. After a conformal mapping, the dependence of the effective Lagrangian on the curvature is not only

From Inflationary COBE Potentials to Higher-Order Curvature Scalar Lagrangians

Within Einstein's general relativity, a new method of reconstructing the inflaton potential U(ϕ) has been developed which, in principle, is applicable to any order of the slow-roll approximation. For

Classification of inflationary Einstein-scalar-field models via catastrophe theory.

This new method, which involves a reparametrization in terms of the Hubble expansion parameter H, provides a classification of allowed inflationary potentials and of the instability of the critical points.

Thermodynamics and cosmology

A new type of cosmological history which includes large-scale entropy production is proposed. These cosmologies are based on a reinterpretation of the matter-energy stress tensor in Einstein's

Cosmological evolution of a torsion-induced quintaxion

In an affine prolongation of general relativity, the minimal coupling of Dirac fields to gravity naturally provides an axial current interaction. We demonstrate that the cancellation of the

Dark Matter Halos as Bose-Einstein Condensates

Galactic dark matter is modelled by a scalar field in order to effectively modify Kepler's law without changing standard Newtonian gravity. In particular, a solvable toy model with a self-interaction

Modified-source gravity and cosmological structure formation

One way to account for the acceleration of the universe is to modify general relativity, rather than introducing dark energy. Typically, such modifications introduce new degrees of freedom. It is

Duality in Yang’s theory of gravity

The historical route and the current status of a curvature-squared model of gravity, in the affine form proposed by Yang, is briefly reviewed. Due to its inherent scale invariance, it enjoys some
