Morbidity and mortality are markedly elevated in chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients as consequence of cardiovascular risk factors clustering. Non-traditional risk factors such as inflammation are far more prevalent in this population and contribute significantly to atherosclerosis and cardiovascular disease (CVD).
