PURPOSE We assayed serum interleukin-1 beta (IL-1 beta), tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-alpha) and interferon gamma (IFN-gamma) levels in children with virus-associated hemophagocytic syndrome (VAHS) to evaluate the relationship of these cytokines to other laboratory parameters.
