High-performance liquid chromatography and Sinorhizobium fredii USDA191 nodC-lacZ gene fusion were used to monitor changes in the isoflavonoid content of soybean roots infected with Heterodera glycines isolate TN1. Isoflavonoid concentrations in infected roots of both H. glycines-resistant Hartwig and susceptible Essex soybean were two to four-fold higher than those of uninfected roots 2 and 3 days after inoculation. The isoflavonoids produced activated the transcription of nodC-lacZ fusion… Expand
Interaction of Heterodera glycines and Glomus mosseae on Soybean.
TLDR
The results suggest that nematodes antagonism to the mycorrhizal symbiosis is a more likely consequence of interactions between H. glycines and AM fungi on soybean than is nematode suppression by the fungus. Expand
Metabolomics of soybean green stem and foliar retention (GSFR) disease using Mass Spectrometry and Molecular Networking.
TLDR
This study showed metabolomics differences of protective substances in the roots, evidencing a quick response of the plant to the attack of A. besseyi. Expand
Multiple Nodulation Genes Are Up-Regulated During Establishment of Reniform Nematode Feeding Sites in Soybean.
TLDR
Nodulins and nodule-associated genes may have ancestral functions in normal root development and mycorrhization that have been co-opted by both parasitic nematodes and rhizobial bacteria to promote feeding site and nodulins associated with the plant-derived peribacteroid membrane. Expand
The Role of the Shikimate and the Phenylpropanoid Pathways in Root-Knot Nematode Infection
TLDR
This review gathers information from across a large body of studies focusing on the role of the shikimate and the phenylpropanoid pathways in plant-nematode interactions. Expand
Low-level herbivory by root-knot nematodes (Meloidogyne incognita) modifies root hair morphology and rhizodeposition in host plants (Hordeum vulgare)
TLDR
Evidence is provided that, apart from leakage, nematode root herbivory at background levels induces local and systemic effects on root morphology and exudation, which in turn may affect plant performance. Expand
Nematode infection and reproduction in transgenic and mutant Arabidopsis and tobacco with an altered phenylpropanoid metabolism.
Transgenic and mutant Arabidopsis and tobacco plants with altered phenylpropanoid metabolism were infected with the plant parasitic root knot nematode Meloidogyne incognita to assess the effect ofExpand
Update on Nematodes: Sophisticated Parasites of Legumes Nematodes. Sophisticated Parasites of Legumes
From an agronomic perspective, the interactions of phytoparasitic nematodes with leguminous crops can be devastating (Barker, 1998). On a cellular and molecular level, the complexities of theExpand
A Phytochemical Perspective on Plant Defense Against Nematodes
TLDR
A review of emerging, high-throughput approaches for the identification of anti-nematode metabolites, in particular the use of untargeted metabolomics techniques based on nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and mass spectrometry (MS). Expand
Functions of Flavonoids in Plant–Nematode Interactions
TLDR
Current knowledge of the roles of flavonoids in the interactions between plants and plant parasitic nematodes is reviewed and it is found that they likely contribute to chemotactic attraction or repulsion of nematode towards or away from roots and might help in the general plant defense against nematODE. Expand
Effect of phenolic compounds on nematodes- A review
TLDR
It is found that these compounds are involved in plant defense and hence provide resistance against nematode attack. Expand

Nodulation of Soybeans as Affected by Half-root Infection with Heterodera glycines.
TLDR
The localized suppression of nodulation by SCN was caused by factors in addition to poor plant growth, and application of various levels of KNO to the -NE root-halves of the split-root plant did not alleviate the suppressed nodulation on the companion +NERoot-Halves, even though plant growth was much improved at certain levels of nitrogen. Expand
Influence of nematodes and light sources on growth and nodulation of soybean.
TLDR
The influence of nematodes on nodulation of soybean varied according to their modes of parasitism, which resulted in plants with the greatest shoot weight, pod number, and nodules per g root than nematode-free plants. Expand
Enzymes of the Phenylpropanoid Pathway in Soybean Infected with Meloidogyne incognita or Heterodera glycines.
Transcription of genes encoding several enzymes and the activity of some of these enzymes of the phenylpropanoid pathway leading to synthesis of chemical and physical barriers for defense of plantsExpand
Tobacco Ringspot Virus and Rhizobium Interactions in Soybean: Impairment of Leghemoglobin Accumulation and Nitrogen Fixation
TLDR
This work characterized mosaic virus (SMV) as it affects nodulation and total TRSV in soybean roots and in root nodules of plants nitrogen content and nodule infection and demonstrates that nodulation started, nodule fresh weights were reduced and soybean budblight disease severely delays nodulations and 67% during the last three growth stages; interferes with the efficiency of the N2-fixation process. The nod gene inducer genistein alters the composition and molecular mass distribution of extracellular polysaccharides produced by Rhizobium fredii USDA193
The nodulation genes of Rhizobium fredii are located on large symbiosis plasmids and induced by flavonoid signals from the host plant. When cultured in the presence of the isoflavone nodulation geneExpand
Influence of Nitrogen and Rhizobium Japonicum On the Activity of Heteroidera Glycines 1)
TLDR
It was concluded that N has a direct inhibitory effect on SCN, and simultaneous inoculations of nodulating and nonnodulating lines of soybean with R and SCN (minus N), as compared to SCN alone, reduced the number of cysts developing. Expand
Dormancy of Heterodera glycines in Missouri.
TLDR
Changes in hatching rates and the timing of minimum and maximum rates suggested that H. glycines eggs exhibit more than one type of dormancy, while monophasic changes in all nematode responses with peak midsummer rates suggest that Heterodera glycines produces one primary generation per year in central Missouri. Expand
Rhizobium lipo-chitooligosaccharide nodulation factors: signaling molecules mediating recognition and morphogenesis.
TLDR
This review summarizes the current knowledge on the biosynthesis, structure, and function of this new class of signaling molecules and discusses the possibility that these signals could be part of a new family of plant lipo-chitooligosaccharide growth regulators. Expand
Interrelationships between Root-nodule Bacteria, Plant-parasitic Nematodes and their Leguminous Host.
TLDR
Both nematodes invaded the entire root system, uniformly showing preference for nodules, and the drastic reduction of the total-N in H. trifolii-infected plants reflected stunting of the entire plant due to nematode infection. Expand
Release of flavonoids by the soybean cultivars McCall and peking and their perception as signals by the nitrogen-fixing symbiont sinorhizobium fredii
TLDR
This work isolated flavonoids and used nodC and nolX, which are nod-box-dependent and -independent nod genes, respectively, to determine how signals activate genes in the microsymbionts in soybean cultivars McCall and Peking. Expand
