Somatic embryogenesis (SE) was induced in female flower buds from mature Schisandra chinensis cultivar ‘Hongzhenzhu’. Somatic embryo structures were induced at a low frequency from unopened female flower buds and excised unopened on Murashige and Skoog (MS) agar medium containing 4.0 mg l−1 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D).
