Bioflavonoids, such as quercetin, have recently emerged as a new class of chemotherapeutic drugs for the treatment of various cancer types, but are marred by their low potency and poor selectivity. We report that a short application of low-frequency ultrasound selectively sensitises prostate and skin cancer cells against quercetin. Pretreatment of cells with ultrasound (20 kHz, 2 W cm−2, 60 s) selectively induced cytotoxicity in skin and prostate cancer cells, while having minimal effect on…
Drug combinations with quercetin: doxorubicin plus quercetin in human breast cancer cells
TLDR
Quercetin associated with doxorubicin demonstrated very promising properties for developing chemotherapeutics combinations for the therapy of breast cancer.

TLDR
The most sensitive malignant sites for quercetin revealed to be cancers of blood, brain, lung, uterine, and salivary gland as well as melanoma whereas cytotoxic activity was higher in more aggressive cells compared to the slowly growing cells showing that the most harmful cells for the organism are probably targeted.
88 – Use of Quercetin in Prostate Cancer Cell
The anti-cancer activity of beers is believed residing in its nonalcoholic portion containing phyto-polyphenols that comes from the raw materials including hops and malt, used for making beers.
Quercetin in prostate cancer: Chemotherapeutic and chemopreventive effects, mechanisms and clinical application potential (Review).
TLDR
In the present review, the most important aspects of chemotherapeutic and chemopreventive effects, mechanisms and clinical application potential of quercetin in prostate cancer are summarized.
ANTICANCER AND ANTI-METASTATIC ACTIVITIES OF RHEUM EMODI RHIZOME CHLOROFORM EXTRACTS
In spite of advancements in cancer treatments, there is still a need for effective drugs against metastatic stages of breast cancer. Rheum emodi, a well known medicinal plant is not however
Effect of continuous therapeutic ultrasound on breast cancer cells
TLDR
Results indicated that continuous therapeutic ultrasound has an effect in inhibiting the breast cancer cells growth and has less harm effect on normal cell.

TLDR
Quercetin is a competitive inhibitor of MMP-9 and could downregulate the expression of M Parliamentary metalloproteinases 9 and TGF-β1, which plays an important role in A549 apoptosis.
Ultrasound-Enhanced Chemotherapy and Gene Delivery for Glioma Cells
Treatment of brain cancer is limited in part by inefficient intracellular delivery of drugs and DNA for chemotherapy and gene therapy, respectively. This study tested the hypothesis that ultrasound
Quercetin alleviates myocyte toxic and sensitizes anti-leukemic effect of adriamycin
TLDR
Could sensitize the anti-leukemic effect of ADM by inhibiting the proliferation of white blood cells through trapping the cells at the S phase; caspase-3 was activated via the expressional regulation of Bcl-2, Bax, and NF-κB, and the underlying mechanism was investigated.
Formulation of Anticancer Herbal Drug and their Pharmacognostical and Pharmacological Evaluation.
TLDR
The data presented here indicate that the plant Euphoria longan leaves would be useful as an antioxidant activity and free radical scavenging agent as well as significant anticancer activity against DLA induced in mice.

TLDR
It is suggested that the compounds, curcumin and quercetin, potentially may be useful for enhancing drug sensitivity in certain cancer.
Effects of quercetin on the heat‐induced cytotoxicity of prostate cancer cells
TLDR
Investigation of the effects of quercetin and/or heat on the growth of prostate cancer cells in vitro found that downregulation of hsp70 is expected to enhance heat‐induced inhibitory effects on cell growth.
Flavonoids uptake and their effect on cell cycle of human colon adenocarcinoma cells (Caco2)
TLDR
All dietary flavonoid studied show a significant antioxidant effect in a chemical model system, but only epigallocatechin gallate or gallic acid are able to interfere with the cell cycle in Caco2 cell lines, suggesting that the antioxidant activity of flavonoids is not related to the inhibition of cellular growth.
Flavonoids Suppress Androgen-Independent Human Prostate Tumor Proliferation
TLDR
It is suggested that alterations in cell cycle progression contribute significantly to the antiproliferative effects of quercetin and kaempferol in PC-3 cells.

The effect of cisplatin, etoposide and quercetin on Hsp72 expression.
TLDR
In thermally shocked tumour cells, the expression of Hsp72 was not altered by cisplatin and etoposide, but in normal HSF cells enhanced expression was observed, and quercetin inhibited HSp72 expression in normal and tumour Cells.

This review will focus on current developments of selective targeting and bypassing drug resistance in the management of growth factor receptor-overexpressing tumors.
Induction of cell cycle arrest and apoptosis in human breast cancer cells by quercetin.
TLDR
It is demonstrated that a flavonoid quercetin induces growth inhibition in the human breast carcinoma cell line MCF-7 through at least two different mechanisms; by inhibiting cell cycle progression through transient M phase accumulation and subsequent G2 arrest, and by inducing apoptosis.
Quercetin down-regulates signal transduction in human breast carcinoma cells.
TLDR
The results demonstrate for the first time in proliferating human breast carcinoma cells a reduction by quercetin of the increased capacity for signal transduction, thus providing a novel and sensitive target in cancer cells.
Effect of flavonoids on cell cycle progression in prostate cancer cells.
TLDR
The results suggest that flavonoids are potent regulators of cyclin B and p21 for cell cycle progression, which may play some roles in prevention of carcinogenesis.
