SQL-Tutor is an ITS incorporating constraint-based modeling, an approach which uses a flat set of modular rules to represent the domain. The student model is based on the number of domain constraints that have been satisfied or violated in the course of assessing a student’s answers. We discuss the student model incorporated in SQL-Tutor, and suggest how it might be extended to include highlevel knowledge, and describe what the benefits might be.
