The chimeras between tuber mustard (Brassica juncea) and red cabbage (B. oleracea) were artificially synthesized in our previous study. Adventitious shoots were induced from nodal segments and leaf discs of TCC (LI-LII-LIII, LI -the outmost layer of shoot apical meristem; LII -the middle layer; LIII -the innermost layer. T = Tuber mustard, C = Red cabbage) chimeras. The origin of the shoots was analyzed by histology and molecular biology. As a result, the frequency of adventitious shoot… Expand
Induction and origin of adventitious roots from chimeras of Brassica juncea and Brassica oleracea
TLDR
It is demonstrated that replacing the histogenic LI layer (the outermost apical cell layer) with a different genotype might improve adventitious root induction capability of these vegetative tissues due to likely synergistic effects between LI and the other two histogenic layers, LII and LIII. Expand
Studies on reproductive characteristics of an interspecific chimera between Brassica juncea and Brassica oleracea
TLDR
Investigating reproductive processes of periclinal chimera plants indicated that the heterologous L1 cell layer greatly influenced the reproductive characteristics of the plants, although it did not participate directly in gametogenesis and embryo ontogenesis. Expand
Direct shoot bud organogenesis and plant regeneration from pre-plasmolysed leaf explants in Catharanthus roseus
TLDR
A protocol for high-frequency shoot bud regeneration from the leaves of Catharanthus roseus resulted in the de novo induction and development of adventitious shoot buds in more than 75% of explants, revealing a direct origin of these shoot buds from hypodermal tissue around the mid-rib. Expand
Maintenance of grafting‐induced epigenetic variations in the asexual progeny of Brassica oleracea and B. juncea chimera
TLDR
Analysis of whole genome bisulfite sequencing for comparative analysis of hetero-grafting-induced global methylation changes relative to r-s-CCC4 revealed that the CHH methylation of RE siRNA-overlapping regions was mainly hypermethylation in r-CCC3, indicating that they were responsible for directing and maintaining grafting- induced CHHmethylation. Expand
Heritable variation and small RNAs in the progeny of chimeras of Brassica juncea and Brassica oleracea
TLDR
The results suggest that the change in small RNA expression induced by grafting may be an important factor for introducing graft-induced genetic variations, providing a basis for further investigating the mechanism of graft- induced genetic variation through epigenetics. Expand
Production of transgenic diploid Cucumis melo plants
TLDR
This study evaluated the effect of using two different explant types from the proximal portion of melon seeds on the ploidy status (evaluated by flow cytometry) of regenerated plants and determined the transformation efficiencies obtained with these types of explants from four different genotypes. Expand
An antibiotic-based selection strategy to regenerate transformed plants from apricot leaves with high efficiency
TLDR
Different selection strategies were developed to regenerate transformed plants from leaves of the apricot cultivar Helena, and large significant differences were found in the number of escapes that each selection strategy produced. Expand
Regeneration of transgenic plants expressing the GFP gene from rape cotyledonary and leaf explants: Effects of the genotype and ABA
TLDR
PCR analysis of seed generation of transformants showed that some plants did not follow the Mendelian inheritance of a monogenic trait (transgene) in self-pollinated plants, which could be explained as a result of meiotic recombination or production of genotypic chimeric organisms at regeneration. Expand
Cytogenetic and anatomic behavior of cytochimeras and total polyploids in cassava.
TLDR
Cassava periclinal cytochimeras, cultivars, and interspecific hybrid and polyploid types were studied in relation to embryonic, cytogenetic, and anatomical behavior and pollen viability and diameter appeared to be reliable markers to determine ploidy levels. Expand
MORFOANATOMIA DA RIZOGÊNESE ADVENTÍCIA EM MINIESTACAS DE Eucalyptus grandis x Eucalyptus urophylla
TLDR
It was verified the endogenous origin of adventitious root primordia from vascular cambium, and in some cases, the formation and proliferation of calli at the proximal end of the mini-cuttings within 8 to 12 days. Expand

ORIGIN OF ADVENTITIOUS SHOOTS REGENERATED FROM CULTURED TOBACCO LEAF TISSUE
TLDR
The histogenic composition of plants regenerated from leaf discs of periclinal chimeras indicated that any cell layer in a leaf can be the ultimate source of shoots, and that shoots can be multicellular in origin. Expand
Artificial synthesis of interspecific chimeras between tuber mustard (Brassica juncea) and cabbage (Brassica oleracea) and cytological analysis
TLDR
Interspecific chimeras between tuber mustard and red cabbage were obtained by in vitro graft-culture method and indicated that they contained both sets of parental chromosomes, and chimeral plants possessed valuable characters from the two parents. Expand
Origin and development of adventitious shoot meristems initiated on plant chimeras.
TLDR
The method for generating adventitious shoots can be used to create small genetically distinct sectors analogous to radiation-induced sectors as well as a complete series of periclinical chimeras, both of which have potential for use in determining tissue-to-tissue interactions. Expand
Adventitious shoots: Do they develop from one cell?
TLDR
A stochastic model has been developed which describes the process of apex formation and by which the expected relative chimera percentages E(RCP's) are calculated and leads to the postulate that the apex of the adventitious shoot is formed from only one (epidermal) cell of the meristem or the callus. Expand
Observation of high-frequency occurrence of chimeral adventitious shoots in tissue culture from the chimeral tissues of Pelargonium zonale
TLDR
The result indicated that cells at least in both L2 and L3 of the explants were involved in the regeneration of the adventitious shoots, and it was suggested that the mixed cells can be used to produce the chimera by tissue culture. Expand
Somatic genetic analysis of the apical layers of chimeral sports in chrysanthemum by experimental production of adventitious shoots.
TLDR
While somatic mutation is the ultimate source of the variability in 'Indianapolis' chrysanthemums, the most frequent type of sporting resulted from the loss in mitosis of a chromosome carrying a supressor for the formation of yellow chromoplasts, giving a yellow sector or shoot. Expand
The use of adventitious buds to prevent chimerism in mutation breeding of potato
TLDR
The use of the adventitious-bud technique resulted in a considerable reduction of chimerism when X-rays were used, but not so with EMS, which was optimal for the production high numbers of mutated plants. Expand
Clonal and selective propagation of tobacco from leaves
TLDR
Clones of haploids and diploidized haploids are obtained when tobacco leaves are planted after treatment with 0.5% indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) in talcum, and the formation of adventitious diPLoid shoots from rooted leaves permits induced diploidsy to be transmitted by self-pollination. Expand
Plant Chimeras Used to Establish de novo Origin of Shoots
TLDR
When African violet leaf explants are cultured in vitro, buds and shoots develop directly from the upper leaf surfaces, and in each case adventitious shoots that developed into plants had the parent chimera pattern. Expand
Shoot apical meristems and mutation: fixation of selectively neutral cell genotypes
TLDR
The mathematical modeling of mutation fixation and loss in various kinds of apical meristems is the subject of this communication and has considerable importance in taxonomic, phylogenetic, and morphogenetic studies. Expand
