Abstract Spawning of Atlantic sturgeon (Acipenser oxyrhynchus) was induced at the National Fish Hatchery, Orangeburg, South Carolina, by using acetone-dried sturgeon pituitaries collected 1 year earlier. Some eggs were spawned in a holding tank containing an injected male and female. Additional eggs were surgically removed from the same female and artificially fertilized.
