Induced Magnetic Order by Ion Irradiation of Carbon-Based Structures


Irradiation effects in graphite were one major research area in the past, partially due to its application as a moderator in thermal nuclear reactors. Graphite is still a material of choice for nuclear applications due to its low cross-section for neutron absorption. The influence of irradiation damage produced by different kinds of ions on several properties of graphite was reviewed by Kelly (1981) in chapter 7 of his book.
