Diagnoses, comparisons, photographs and distribution maps are given for three previously described Indo-West Pacific species of Trachinotus that develop spots on their sides as adults. A new species, Trachinotus macrospilus, is described from the Marquesas Islands where it is endemic and the only species of the genus present. It differs from the other spotted Indo-West Pacific species most noticeably in having adults with only one or two large spots on each side, the largest spot larger than…

A single intronic single nucleotide polymorphism in splicing site of steroidogenic enzyme hsd17b1 is associated with phenotypic sex in oyster pompano, Trachinotus anak
- BiologyProceedings of the Royal Society B
- 2021
Oyster pompano belongs to the family Carangidae, in which 17b-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase 1 (hsd17b1) has repeatedly evolved to an MSD gene, and whole-genome resequencing identified a single nucleotide polymorphism at chromosome 24 to be strictly associated with phenotypic sex.

Fishes of the Cocos (Keeling) Islands: new records, community composition and biogeographic significance
- Environmental Science, Biology
- 2014
Sixty-seven new records (from 28 families) are described and the total number of known fishes to 602 species from 84 families are raised, including species that have dispersed more than 2500 km and dispersal ability appears to explain the lack of syngnathids and the high representation of acanthurids and holocentrids in the community.
Aspects of the biology and life history of largespot pompano, Trachinotus botla, in South Africa
- Environmental Science
- 2015
Biological investigations revealed that Trachinotus botla is a fast growing species that attains a maximum age of ~7 years, and an ontogenetic dietary shift was observed just after sexual maturity that is possibly linked to a change in habitat preference with larger fish foraging on deeper reefs.
