INTRODUCTION Advantages of cryogenic radio frequency (RF) probes compared to room-temperature (RT) coils for small animal MR imaging have been recently investigated [1-3]. As in small animal MRI sample noise and thermal receiver noise are of comparable magnitude, cooling of RF coil and preamplifier leads to a significant increase in sensitivity.
