We examined the oxidative burst (hydrogen peroxide-dependent oxidative product formation) of polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMNL) in the peripheral blood from the patients with various types of periodontal diseases including localized juvenile (LJP), generalized juvenile (GJP) and adult periodontitis (AP). Heparinized peripheral blood was obtained from 15 LJP, 13 GJP and 52 AP patients and from 30 healthy control subjects.
