BACKGROUND Irisin stimulates browning of white adipose tissue and improves metabolic control in mice. Betatrophin, another recently described hormone, improves metabolic control in mice by inducing β-cell proliferation. In vitro, irisin stimulates the expression of betatrophin in rat adipocytes.
