Neurons containing serotonin (5-HT), a potent anorexic agent, come into contact with neuropeptide Y-ergic neurons, that project from the arcuate nucleus (ARC) to the paraventricular nucleus (PVN). NPY powerfully stimulates feeding and induces obesity when injected repeatedly into PVN.
