Oestrous rats were anaesthetized with pentobarbital and one of the femoral arteries, femoral veins and utero-ovarian veins were cannulated. Five min blood fractions were collected from the ovary for 50 min. Following two control fractions fenoterol, noradrenaline, isoproterenol (0.5 microgram/min) or 0.9% NaCl (0.02 ml/min) were infused iv for 40 min. In a group of oestrous animals fenoterol was given locally to the ovarian bursa. Blood pressure and the ovarian venous outflow were continuously…

It was concluded that in LH-induced hyperemia, cAMP, prostaglandins and other vasoactive metabolites released during the process of hormone synthesis, and also a beta-adrenergic mechanism, are involved in the regulation of ovarian blood flow.
Influence of adrenoreceptor agonists and antagonists on ovulation in the rabbit ovary perfused in vitro.

The results indicate that local adrenoreceptor mechanisms participate in the process of ovulation, both via alpha-adrenoreceptors (probably affecting the follicular smooth musculature) and alpha-receptor blockade with phenoxybenzamine (possibly through some trophic or endocrine mechanism other than a mechanical factor).

It is suggested that EPI of adrenomedullary origin supports female prepubertal development by stimulating ovarian P secretion, favoring Prl and GH release and amplifying the stimulatory effect of low gonadotropin levels on ovarian steroidogenesis.
Prepubertal ovarian function is finely regulated by direct adrenergic influences. Role of noradrenergic innervation.

The results suggest that during prepubertal maturation, noradrenergic fibers reaching the ovary via the SON may modify ovarian steridogenic sensitivity to catecholamines, by regulating the number of functional beta- adrenergic receptors in the gland.

It is suggested that ovarian adrenergic nerves normally participate in follicular development in the prepubertal guinea pig, however, exogenous gonadotropins may override neural influences on the prepUbertal ovary.

The infusion of isoprenaline or propranolol into the abdominal aorta of the pseudopregnant cat caused an increase or decrease respectively in the ovarian progesterone secretion rate. These…

The role of alpha adrenoceptors in the vascular and estradiol secretory responses to stimulation of the superior ovarian nerve
- Biology, MedicineThe Journal of Physiological Sciences

It is concluded that ovarian vascular and estradiol secretory responses to superior ovarian nerve activation are mediated by alpha 1- and alpha 2-adrenoceptors, respectively.
