Temporary or permanent diversion of the fecal stream may be an effective part of the management of a wide range of disease processes. Trephine sigmoid colostomy is usually done under local or regional anesthesia in high-risk patients. It involves performing the operation via trephine incision through which the bowel is manipulated and brought up as colostomy.
