The uptake of two photosensitising agents (hematoporphyrin and chlorophyll a) by a highly pathogenic bacterium, namely methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), has been studied by using unilamellar liposomes of different size, fluidity and electric charge as carriers.
