Ornithine transcarbamoylase (OTCase; ornithine carbamoyltransferase; carbamoyl phosphate:L-ornithine carbamoyltransferase, EC 2.1.3.3), a major mitochondrial matrix enzyme in ureotelic animals, is synthesized on cytoplasmic ribosomes and translocated across both mitochondrial membranes to the matrix.
