The polychlorinated pesticide toxaphene has been identified as a persistent environmental contaminant and is of particular concern in the Great Lakes and Arctic regions of Canada. Inconsistencies in published in vitro genotoxicology studies have hindered risk assessments of toxaphene exposure.
