To evaluate the effects of P. amarus on hepatitis B virus (HBV) antigens and HBV-DNA, initial ethanolic extract and subsequent fractions of the plants were prepared. The whole plant material was dried, powdered and extracted with alcohol and subsequently fractionated in hexane, chloroform, butanol and finally in water. All the material were tested for in vitro effects on HBsAg, HBeAg and HBV-DNA in serum samples positive for HBV antigens followed by the screening of respective antigens by Elisa…

Antiviral effect of Phyllanthus nanus ethanolic extract against hepatitis B virus (HBV) by expression microarray analysis

Results showed that expression of Axn7–GFP fusion protein are localized around the secretory vesicles and could cause a decrease in HBsAg secretion in Alexander cells and could play an important role in the medicinal effect of the active principle(s) of P. nanus.

Hepatoprotective and Antiviral Efficacy of Acacia mellifera Leaves Fractions against Hepatitis B Virus

The present study investigated the hepatoprotective and anti-HBV efficacy of Acacia mellifera leaves extracts and found that AM cured the tissue lesions and the therapeutic potential of AM extracts warrants further isolation of the active principle and its phytochemical as well as biological studies.

Evaluation of anti‐hepadnavirus activity of Phyllanthus amarus and Phyllanthus maderaspatensis in duck hepatitis b virus carrier Pekin ducks

Extracts of the two traditional Indian herbs, Phyl lanthus amarus and Phyllanthus maderaspatensis, described by others as useful in the treatment of chronic hepatitis B virus infection were studied for antiviral properties on duck hepatitis Birus infection.

In vitro evaluation of novel antiviral activities of 60 medicinal plants extracts against hepatitis B virus

This is the first experimental evaluation of the anti-hepatitis B virus (HBV) potential of the total ethanolic and sequential organic extracts of 60 candidate medicinal plants, which demonstrated novel anti-HBV activities in a time- and dose-dependent manner.

Evaluation of Phyllanthus amarus and Phyllanthus maderaspatensis as agents for postexposure prophylaxis in neonatal duck hepatitis B virus infection

Observations suggest that Phyllanthus amarus and PhyllAnthus maderaspatensis are not useful as therapeutic agents for postexposure prophylaxis against DHBV infection.

Therapeutic Effects of Phyllanthus Species: Induction of TNF-α-mediated Apoptosis in HepG2 Hepatocellular Carcinoma Cells

It is demonstrated that Phyllanthus extracts induce TNF-α production from the hepatocellular carcinoma cells while inhibiting production of potent anti-apoptotic genes IL-8 and COX-2.

In Vivo Antiplasmodial Activity and Safety of the Aqueous Ethanolic Shoot Extracts of Phyllanthus amarus Schum. and Thonn

Aqueous ethanolic extract of Phyllanthus amarus shoot extract possesses useful In vivo antiplasmodial activity against trophozoites when used at doses that cause no marked toxicity in mice.

The extracts of many plants used in traditional medicine contain curative agents that are used in many modern medicines. As part of the quest for potentially valuable plants of medicinal value, the

A Study of the Effect of Phyllanthus Amarus Extracts on Blood Glucose in Rabbits

It is concluded that the aqueous extract of Phyllanthus amarus contains a hypoglycaemic activity as claimed, causing a significant increase in area under the OGTT and fasting blood glucose curves.
