Chitosan-silicate hybrids were synthesized using gamma-glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane (GPSM) as the agent for cross-linking the chitosan chains. CaCl2 was introduced in the hybrids in expectation that it would improve cell adhesion and differentiation of the hybrid surfaces. Fourier-transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy and 29Si CP-MAS NMR spectroscopy were used to analyze the structures of the hybrids.
