BACKGROUND The incidence of urinary tract infections (UTIs) caused by extended-spectrum-beta-lactamase (ESBL) producing Escherichia coli (ESBL-EC) and Klebsiella pneumoniae (ESBL-KP) has been on the rise limiting oral treatment options.
