The therapeutic alternatives available for use against ciprofloxacin-resistant enteric fever isolates in an endemic area are limited. The antibiotics currently available are the quinolones, third-generation cephalosporins and conventional first-line drugs. In this study, the MICs of various newer drugs were determined for 31 ciprofloxacin-resistant enteric fever isolates (26 Salmonella enterica serovar Typhi and 5 S. enterica serovar Paratyphi A). MICs for ciprofloxacin, ofloxacin, gatifloxacin…
Minimum inhibitory concentration of carbapenems and tigecycline against Salmonella spp.
TLDR
Tigecycline and the carbapenems are likely to have roles in the final stage of treatment of quinolone-resistant and ESBL-producing multidrug-resistant salmonellae.
In vitro susceptibility of some antimicrobials against bacteria enteropathogens
TLDR
Rifaximin is a promising treatment and chemophylaxis for nonsystemic bacteria diarrhea and resistance rates of enteropathogens were much higher in this area of China than other regions or countries.
Minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of Ceftriaxone and Azithromycin for blood culture isolates of Salmonella enterica spp.
TLDR
This study documents an alarming increase in resistance to ceftriaxone among NARS in Mumbai while azithromycin continues to be susceptible in vitro.
Azithromycin Resistance in Clinical Isolates of Salmonella enterica Serovars Typhi and Paratyphi in Bangladesh.
TLDR
The occurrence of macrolide resistance in clinical Salmonella enterica serovars Typhi and Paratyphi is of particular significance in Bangladesh where azithromycin is a commonly used drug against most diseases.
Epidemiology, Clinical Presentation, Laboratory Diagnosis, Antimicrobial Resistance, and Antimicrobial Management of Invasive Salmonella Infections
TLDR
Azithromycin is effective for the management of uncomplicated typhoid fever and may serve as an alternative oral drug in areas where fluoroquinolone resistance is common and ciprofloxacin susceptibility breakpoints were lowered to account for accumulating clinical, microbiologic, and pharmacokinetic-pharmacodynamic data.
Patterns in antimicrobial susceptibility of Salmonellae isolated at a tertiary care hospital in northern India
TLDR
This study showed an alarming increase in MIC to quinolones and re-emergence of susceptibility to conventional antibiotics among Salmonellae.
Effectiveness of treatment regimens for Typhoid fever in the nalidixic acid-resistant S. typhi (NARST) era in South India
TLDR
Though mortality and relapse in the authors' cohort was low, NARST seemed to correlate with mortality, and Gatifloxacin or azithromycin clearly emerge as the drugs of choice for treatment of typhoid in South India.
Increasing antimicrobial resistance and narrowing therapeutics in typhoidal salmonellae.

  • 2013
TLDR
Increasing resistance to fluoroquinolones in typhoidal Salmonellae is alarming and emphasizes the need of effective preventive measures to control typhoid and to limit the unnecessary use of antibiotics.
Increasing antimicrobial resistance and narrowing therapeutics in typhoidal salmonellae.
TLDR
Increasing resistance to fluoroquinolones in typhoidal Salmonellae is alarming and emphasizes the need of effective preventive measures to control typhoid and to limit the unnecessary use of antibiotics.
Antimicrobial resistance in Salmonella enterica serovar typhi and paratyphi in South Asia-current status, issues and prospects
TLDR
Conclusively, the MDR will continue to grow and the available antimicrobial agents would become obsolete, therefore, a radical and aggressive approach in terms of rational use of antibiotics during treating infections is essentially needed.

High-level ciprofloxacin resistance in Salmonella enterica serotype Typhi in India.
TLDR
To the authors' knowledge there have been no reports of absolute resistance to ciprofloxacin in S. enterica serotype Typhi (S. Typhi), but recently there has been a report of the isolation of a strain of SalmonellaEnteric fever serotype Paratyphi A showing resistance tociproFLoxacIn.

TLDR
PFGE revealed undistinguishable XbaI fragment patterns in ciprofloxacin-resistant S. Typhi as well as in S.
