The in vitro activity of CGP 31523A, a new aminothiazolyl cephalosporin, was compared with those of cefoxitin, cefuroxime, moxalactam, piperacillin, ciprofloxacin, and other beta-lactams, when appropriate, against 533 recent clinical isolates and known resistant strains of bacteria. The MICs of CGP 31523A required to inhibit 90% (MIC90S) of the members of the family Enterobacteriaceae, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, and Streptococcus pneumoniae were less than or equal to 0.25 micrograms/ml. Modulation of bacteriolysis by cooperative effects of penicillin-binding proteins 1a and 3 in Escherichia coli.
TLDR
It is concluded that cooperative effects between PBPs in E. coli can lead to a dissociation of bacterial killing and lysis, which is highly bactericidal without causing cell wall degradation or lysis.
Penetration of Moxifloxacin into Bone Evaluated by Monte Carlo Simulation
TLDR
The favorable PTAs compared to the 90%-inhibitory MIC of Staphylococcus aureus warrant future clinical trials on the effectiveness of moxifloxacin in the treatment of bone infections.
Aminothiazolylglycyl derivatives of carbacephems. I. Synthesis and antibacterial activity of novel carbacephems with substituted aminothiazolyl groups.
TLDR
A series of new carbacephem compounds which have substituted aminothiazolylglycyl side chain have been prepared and the (S)-isomer was found to be the most active against Pseudomonas sp.

The in vitro activity of piperacillin, a new semisynthetic piperazine penicillin derivative, was evaluated against 626 clinical isolates and compared with the activity of other beta-lactam
In vitro activity of Bay 09867, a new quinoline derivative, compared with those of other antimicrobial agents
TLDR
Bay 09867 was considerably more active against the gram-negative bacteria tested than were other agents tested, and Gentamicin-resistant Enterobacteriaceae, P. aeruginosa, and methicillin-resistant S. aureus were highly susceptible to Bay 0 9867.
GR 20263, a new broad-spectrum cephalosporin with anti-pseudomonal activity
TLDR
GR 20263 is a new broad-spectrum injectable cephalosporin which is stable to most beta-lactamases, and produces high, long-lasting blood levels, with much of the antibiotic being recovered in the urine.
Antibacterial activity of ceftizoxime, a beta-lactamase-stable cephalosporin

    Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy

TLDR
Cftizoxime was the most active agent tested against Escherichia coli and Klebsiella, inhibiting 80% at 0.025 microgram/ml, and was more active than cefotaxime against Enterobacter cloacae and E. aerogenes.
Novel Method for Detection of β-Lactamases by Using a Chromogenic Cephalosporin Substrate
A new cephalosporin with a highly reactive β-lactam ring was found to give an immediate color change in the presence of β-lactamases from many bacteria, including staphylococci, Bacillus species,
Method of reliable determination of minimal lethal antibiotic concentrations
TLDR
This method was used to determine the minimal lethal concentrations of semi-synthetic penicillins for S. aureau isolates, one of which was tolerant to the killing action of penicillin.
