China has deployed the world's largest fleet of sulfur dioxide (SO(2)) scrubbers (flue gas desulfurization systems), and most of them now appear to be operating properly. Although many plant managers avoided using their SO(2) scrubbers in the past, recent evidence, based on a series of field interviews conducted by the author, suggests that managers of coal power plants now have incentives to operate their scrubbers properly. China's new policy incentives since 2007 appear well designed to…

Sulfur dioxide emissions from combustion in china: from 1990 to 2007.
TLDR
This work estimates the annual emission from combustion sources at provincial levels in China from 1990 to 2007, with updated data investigations, and implemented the method of transportation matrix to gain a better understanding of sulfur content of coal in consuming provinces.

TLDR
This paper systematically examines the case of sulfur dioxide (SO(2)) scrubbing technologies, with first-hand information from the author's field interviews, to explain why such a functioning market for technology could emerge in China.
Quantifying coal power plant responses to tighter SO2 emissions standards in China
TLDR
Evaluating the impact of China’s new air pollution standards on sulfur dioxide (SO2) emissions by comparing newly available data from Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems at coal power plants with satellite measures shows a corresponding decline in SO2 measures in satellite observations.
National Regulation of SO2 and NOx Emissions in China
Under big challenges to reduce local and regional air pollution, China has been conducting an aggressive policy of energy saving and emission control since 2005. The benefits of the policy on
Effectiveness of SO2 emission control policy on power plants in the Yangtze River Delta, China—post-assessment of the 11th Five-Year Plan
TLDR
The effectiveness of the SO2 emission control policies on power plants after the 11th FYP (2006–2010) is assessed by modeling emission control scenarios to design capable enforcement of emission control strategies in China in the future national plans.
Cost analysis of environmental protection price of coal-fired plants in China
TLDR
The policy suggestions were proposed, namely, the reform of electricity environmental protection price would be carried out gradually, the relationship between electricity environmentalprotection price policy and other environmental protection policies would be matched under the relative overcapacity condition, and the environmental Protection price regulation would be integrated into other environmental policies.

Reorienting Regulation: Pollution Enforcement in Industrializing Countries
TLDR
This special issue aims to set a course for future inquiry on regulatory enforcement in industrializing countries by developing four cross-cutting themes: how enforcement and its institutional context vary geographically and temporally, how enforcement is affected by deficiencies in regulatory capacity and autonomy, how civil liability regimes interact with enforcement, and the relationship with regulatory instrument choice.
