Aqueous foam is widely used in fire extinguishing and dust suppression technologies. Improving the foaming ability is the key to reducing the added concentration of foaming agents as well as the economic cost. In this work, the effect of a water-soluble polymer (polyvinyl alcohol, PVA) on the foaming ability of anionic surfactant (sodium dodecyl ether sulfate, SDES) was studied by an experiment and molecular dynamics simulation. The experimental results showed that PVA greatly improves the…

Impact of Spacer Nature and Counter Ions on Rheological Behavior of Novel Polymer-Cationic Gemini Surfactant Systems at High Temperature
This study improves the understanding of tuning the surfactant composition in making SP solutions with better rheological properties by revealing that the novel SP solution with a mono phenyl and chloride counterions produces a better performance in comparison with the SP solution, which contains mono Phenyl and bromide counterions.
Changes of physical properties of coal dust with crush degrees and their effects on dust control ability of the surfactant solution spray
Based on the linear fitting analysis between surface features and the dust control efficiency, it was indicated that the increased gas adsorption and pore structures on the dust surface was the key factors weakening the dust removal efficiency of the surfactant solution from the perspective of the physical features of coal dust.
Experimental Study on the Inhibition Effects of Nitrogen and Carbon Dioxide on Coal Spontaneous Combustion
Inert gases can effectively inhibit coal spontaneous combustion. In this paper, the inhibition effect of inert gases (N2 and CO2) on coal spontaneous combustion was studied. In the low-temperature

The effects of polymer and surfactant on polymer enhanced foam stability
Polymer addition to foam has been proposed to enhance foam stability. Polymers can be used as a viscosifying agent of the aqueous surfactant solution of the external phase of foam, increasing
On the Origin of Foam Stability: Understanding from Viscoelasticity of Foaming Solutions and Liquid Films
The foam stability (drainage half-life) of α-olefin sulfonate (AOS) with partially hydrolyzed polyacrylamide (HPAM) or xanthan gum (XG) solution was evaluated by the Warring Blender method. With the
Study of the microcharacter of ultrastable aqueous foam stabilized by a kind of flexible connecting bipolar-headed surfactant with existence of magnesium ion.
It was found that the ultrastable foam film obtained by the cooperation of magnesium ions and AE3S was driven from two aspects: one is the favorable arrangement of surfactant molecules, and the other is the increase of capacity of foam films for resolutely holding water molecules deduced by a dipolar pair formed by the flexible connecting head groups ofAE3S.
