A rapid laboratory system has been developed and evaluated that can simultaneously identify major diarrhoeagenic bacteria, including Salmonella enterica, Vibrio parahaemolyticus, Campylobacter jejuni and Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli, in stool specimens by real-time PCR.
