Improved SLM for PAPR Reduction in OFDM Systems

Abstract

As one of promising techniques, Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) has the problem of high Peak-toAverage Power Ratio (PAPR), which limits its applications in communications. Selected Mapping (SLM) provides good PAPR reduction performance but at the cost of high complexity. In this paper, a Recursive SLM (RSLM) scheme is proposed. By using different phase set in each stage to reduce the correlation of candidate signals from different stages, PAPR reduction performance is improved a lot. Moreover, the computational complexity of the proposed RSLM is further reduced by choosing a proper threshold. Simulation results show that RSLM scheme can reduce the computational complexity dramatically but with the same or better PAPR reduction performance compared to SLM.
