We review construction of the improved holographic models for QCDlike confining gauge theories and their applications to the physics of the quark–gluon plasma. We also review recent progress in this area of research. The lecture notes start from the vacuum structure of these theories, then develop calculation of thermodynamic and hydrodynamic observables, energy loss and momentum broadening of heavy probes, and end with more advanced topics such as the holographic QCD in the presence of…

Boundary symmetries and strong coupling dualities

In this doctoral thesis we study aspects of dualities that arise from string theory. We make extensive use of the Chern-Simons formulation of three-dimensional gravity and its boundary symmetries,

Zooming in on AdS3/CFT2 near a BPS bound

A bstractAny (d + 1)-dimensional CFT with a U(1) flavor symmetry, a BPS bound and an exactly marginal coupling admits a decoupling limit in which one zooms in on the spectrum close to the bound. This

Exploring the AdS/CFT Correspondence: Non-Relativistic Generalisations & Holographic Multiboundary Wormholes

In this thesis I explore two pertinent avenues of the $AdS/CFT$ correspondence: the rich, pragmatic context of non-relatavistic holography and the story of holographic multiboundary wormholes and

The Large-N Limit of Superconformal Field Theories and Supergravity

We show that the large-N limits of certainconformal field theories in various dimensions includein their Hilbert space a sector describing supergravityon the product of anti-de Sitter spacetimes,
