In All-Optical networks it is crucial to optimize the use of the available bandwidth resource. We consider the static wavelength assignment problem in all-optical Rings and Tree of Rings without wavelength conversion, and devise new wavelength assignment heuristics. In turn, we perform experimental performance evaluation and show that the proposed heuristics yield improved wavelength performance compared to previously known heuristics for the wavelength assignment problem.
