We propose a novel method of extracting the imprint of gravitational lensing by Population III stars in the light curves of gamma-ray bursts (GRBs). Significant portions of GRBs can originate in hypernovae of Population III stars and be gravitationally lensed by foreground Population III stars or their remnants. If the lens mass is on the order of 102-103 M☉ and the lens redshift is greater than 10, the time delay between two lensed images of a GRB is ≈1 s and the image separation is ≈10 μas…

Strong lensing of gamma ray bursts as a probe of compact dark matter

Compact dark matter has been efficiently constrained in the M ~ 10 M_sun by seeking echoes in gamma-ray-burst light curves induced by strong lensing. We show that strong gravitational lensing of…

Microlensing of Gamma-Ray Bursts by Stars and MACHOs
- Physics

The microlensing interpretation of the optical afterglow of GRB 000301C seems naively surprising, since a simple estimate of the stellar microlensing rate gives less than one in 400 for a flat ΩΛ =…

The afterglow of a cosmological gamma-ray burst (GRB) should appear on the sky as a narrow emission ring of radius ~3 × 1016 cm (t/day)5/8 that expands faster than light. After a day, the ring radius…

It is shown that microlensing by individual stars in the lensing galaxy can smear out the light curves of the multiply imaged bursts on millisecond time-scales, resulting in the appearance of two very similar bursts from the same location with a relative time delay of hours to a year.
