BACKGROUND A crucial role for CD8(+) cells in induction of crescentic anti-glomerular basement membrane (GBM) glomerulonephritis (GN) in WKY rats was demonstrated in studies showing that depletion of CD8(+) cells completely suppressed glomerular accumulation of monocytes/macrophages (Mo/Mphi), crescent formation and proteinuria.
