Ethiopia has the largest livestock population in Africa, but the contribution for the economic aspect of the country is still lowest and disease can be considered as major constrain. Ticks are the most important ectoparasites of livestock in tropical and sub-tropical areas. Ethiopia is not exceptional and ticks are responsible for severe economic losses both through the direct effects of blood sucking and indirectly as vectors of pathogens and toxins. Feeding by large numbers of ticks causes…

Review on Epidemiology and Economic Importance of Lumpy Skin Disease in Ethiopia
Lumpy skin disease is an important cause of mortality and reduced productivity. LSD is a transboundary emerging ‘list A’ disease caused by lumpy skin disease virus and considered as a disease of high
A Review on Sheeppox and Goatpox: Insight of Epidemiology, Diagnosis, Treatment and Control Measures in Ethiopia
Sheeppox and goatpox are caused by a genus of Capripox virus causing a severe problem and great economic loss in Ethiopia and also in sheep and goat rearing countries in many parts of the world. The
Prevalence of small ruminant gastrointestinal parasites infections and associated risk factors in selected districts of Bale zone, south eastern Ethiopia
TLDR
Polyparasitism is a major health problem and hindrance in small ruminants’ production in current study area and periodic and strategic deworming intervention with effective broad spectrum anti-helminths, awareness creation, proper grazing system and stocking size encompassing all localities of the study area is needed to mitigate this daunting problem.
Identification and Prevalence of Ixodid Ticks of Cattle in case of Haramaya Eastern Hararghe, Ethiopia
TLDR
Findings of this study suggest that ticks were the most important problems of cattle of the study areas and warrants urgent strategic control including application of acaricides and creation of awareness among livestock owners about the veterinary importance of ticks for the integrated tick control.
Epidemiology and Economic Importance of Sheep and Goat Pox: A Review on Past and Current Aspects
TLDR
Since these diseases have no effective drug the treatment should be directed at preventing secondary bacterial infection and the animal should be vaccinated with commercially available attenuated vaccine as the main control measure in endemic regions.
Seroprevalence and Distribution of Contagious Bovine Pleuropneumonia in Ethiopia: Update and Critical Analysis of 20 Years (1996–2016) Reports
TLDR
Seroprevalence of CBPP is posing a major threat to cattle production in many parts of the country, thereby causing considerable economic losses through morbidity and mortality and great attention should be given both at production areas and the quarantine stations as its occurrence may affect the export earnings of the nation.
Effect of the Essential Oil of Clausena anisata (Rutaceae) and Palm Kernel Vegetable Oil on Engorged Females of Three Species of Ixodidae Cattle Ticks
TLDR
Evaluating the effects of the essential oil of Clausena anisata and of palm kernel vegetable oil compared to a reference chemical acaricide, flumethrin, on the biological parameters of the engorged females of three major tick species in the Maritime Region of Togo found the two oils tested can be an alternative control of the studied ticks after additional studies.
Evaluation of the in vitro acaricidal properties of the latex and major compounds isolated from the leaves of aloe yavellana (reynolds) against amblyomma variegatum (ixodidae ticks)
TLDR
The latex was found to be more effective in killing larvae ticks than the individual isolated compounds and could have the potential to be used as bioacaricides against ticks and tick born disease (TBDs).
