Implementation of Self-Determination Act begins.

Abstract

As a part of the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1990 (OBRA '90), Congress established the Patient Self-Determination Act (PSDA). The PSDA, which becomes effective on December 1, 1991, requires certain Medicare- or Medicaid-reimbursed health care entities to provide adult individuals with information with respect to their right to direct and participate in decisions concerning their health care.
