[1] Using spectral and statistical analyses of discharges and basin average precipitation rates acquired over the Po River since the early 1800s, we investigate the impact of variations in solar activity on hydrological decadal patterns over northern Italy. Wet and dry periods appear to alternate in accordance with polarized sunspot cycles. Intriguingly, a solar signature on Po River discharges is detected to be highly significant since the late 1800s, before the onset of sunspots hyperactivity…

Combined Effects of Solar Activity and El Niño on Hydrologic Patterns in the Yoshino River Basin, Japan
Relatively little is known about the combined effects of solar activity and El Niño Southern Oscillation (ENSO) on both surface and subsurface hydrologic patterns, especially in Japan. Analyses of
Solar activity forcing of terrestrial hydrological phenomena
Abstract Recently, the study of the influence of solar activity on the Earth's climate received strong attention, mainly due to the possibility, proposed by several authors, that global warming is
This study has been undertaken to investigate the possible climatic changes observed globally during centuries and the solar cycle activity during the same duration. One of the simplest observation
A case study of relationship between GPS PWV and solar variability during the declining phase of solar cycle 23
Water vapor plays an important role in the global climate system. A clear relationship between water vapor and solar activity can explain some physical mechanisms of how solar activity influences
Solar motion and discharge of Paraná River, South America: Evidence for a link
A link between climate and the motion of the Sun around the barycenter of the solar system has been suggested, mostly on the basis of interannual cycles observed in climatological data from the

Solar‐irradiance variations and regional precipitation fluctuations in the Western USA
Changes in total solar irradiance can be linked to changes in regional precipitation. A possible mechanism responsible for this linkage begins with the absorption of varying amounts of solar energy
Observed winter Alpine precipitation variability and links with large-scale circulation patterns
The winter precipitation variability over the Alpine region is described by a standard principal component analysis (PCA), performed starting from monthly precipitation anomalies for the 1971-1992
Natural climatic changes and solar cycles: an analysis of hydrological time series
Abstract The effects induced on the climate by human activity have become a major issue for the new millennium. In order to arrive at sustainable conclusions it is necessary, first of all, to assess
Signatures of the NAO in the atmospheric circulation during wet winter months over the Mediterranean region
SummaryPositive trend of the North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO) during last several decades was also accompanied by a positive trend of the East Atlantic Western Russia (EAWR) pattern. Decline of the

Long‐term and solar cycle variation of the ring current
The long-term and solar cycle variation of geomagnetic activity since the beginning of the century is examined. It is demonstrated that the daily average of the horizontal magnetic perturbation of a
Mesoclimatology of winter temperature and precipitation in the po valley of northern italy
An attempt is made to characterize the mesoscale climatological structures of the daily maximum and minimum temperature anomalies (with respect to monthly climatology) and total daily precipitation
On correlations between the North Atlantic Oscillation, geopotential heights, and geomagnetic activity
We investigate correlations between geomagnetic activity indices, the North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO), and stratospheric geopotential heights. It is shown that the correlation between the

The leading empirical orthogonal function of the wintertime sea‐level pressure field is more strongly coupled to surface air temperature fluctuations over the Eurasian continent than the North
The North Atlantic Oscillation influence on Europe: climate impacts and associated physical mechanisms
A multivariable analysis of the influence of the North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO) on the climate of the North Atlantic and European sectors is presented using the 40 yr (1958-1997) consis- tent data
