Impact of the earth's oscillations on the earthquakes

In this work we have discovered that the global seismic activity undergoes a modulation with the period of 54 min. We assume that the modulation is caused by the fundamental spheroidal oscillations of the Earth 0S2. The hidden 54-min periodicity of earthquakes was revealed by analyzing of earthquake catalogs using the method of epoch superposition and the spectral method. Initially we discovered some signs of the impact of 0S2 oscillations on the earthquakes accidentally when searching for an…

Foreshocks of strong earthquakes

The specific enhancement of ultra-low-frequency (ULF) electromagnetic oscillations a few hours prior to the strong earthquakes, which was previously mentioned in the literature, motivated us to

Recently, Izvestiya, Physics of the Solid Earth has published the empirical results certainly indicating the influence of the free oscillations of the Earth on earthquake activity. It is known that

The aftershock dynamics of the Sumatra-Andaman earthquake

The aftershocks of the catastrophic Sumatra-Andaman earthquake of December 26, 2004 (M = 9.0) are analyzed in the general context of the theory of critical phenomena. The analysis relies on the idea

Round-the-world echo of earthquake and solar flare

We drew attention to the analogy between the round-the-world seismic echo on the Earth and on the Sun. The phenomenon of echo on the Earth is observed during earthquakes. It was found that the main

Three New Fundamental Problems in Physics of the Aftershocks

Recently, the physics of aftershocks has been enriched by three new problems. We will conditionally call them dynamic, inverse, and morphological problems. Dynamic problem is to search for the

Aftershocks of the 2013 deep Okhotsk earthquake.

Strong deep earthquakes occurred in the Sea of Okhotsk, May 24, 2013 at 05:44 UTC. The magnitude of the earthquake is M = 8.3, the depth of the hypocenter is 629 km. The earthquake was accompanied by

This methodical note is devoted to the nonlinear impact of convergent seismic waves on a medium. Special attention is paid to the similarity and distinctions of the phenomena occurring in the Earth,

Three Problems in Aftershock Physics

Abstract In recent years three new problems emerged in aftershock physics. We shall refer to these problems in a preliminary way as the dynamic, the inverse, and the morphological problem. They have

The Phenomenology of Aftershocks

The presented paper is devoted to the search for mathematical basis for describing the aftershock evolution of strong earthquakes. We consider the experimental facts and heuristic arguments that

Dynamic and stochastic models of the evolution of aftershocks.

This paper is devoted to the theory of aftershocks. The history of discovery of the Omori law is briefly described, the initial formulation of the law is given in the form of an algebraic formula
