Abstract Quercetin (QCN) is commonly used in high doses as a dietary supplement for weight loss. Psychotic patients are at greater risk of developing obesity than the general population. The present study was designed to understand the impact of QCN on the exposure of quetiapine (QTE), an anti-psychotic drug with narrow therapeutic index and brain penetrating capability. The content of QTE in rat plasma was analyzed through liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry. The results showed a…

Pharmacokinetic interaction study between quercetin and valsartan in rats and in vitro models
The observed effect may be beneficial to develop oral valsartan dosage forms using safe P-gp inhibitor (quercetin) to improve its oral bioavailability.
Effects of quercetin on the pharmacokinetics of losartan and its metabolite EXP3174 in rats
The results indicated that the herb–drug interaction between quercetin and losartan might occur when they are co-administered in rats, querceetin could increase the systemic exposure ofLosartan and decrease the plasma concentration of EXP3174, possibly by inhibiting the activity of P-gp or CYP450 enzyme.
Effects of quercetin on the bioavailability of doxorubicin in rats: Role of CYP3A4 and P-gp inhibition by quercetin
It appears that the development of oral doxorubicin preparations is possible, which will be more convenient than the intravenous dosage forms, and concurrent use of quercetin provides a therapeutic benefit — it increases the bioavailability of doxorbicin administered orally.
Short-term effects of Garcinia cambogia extract on the pharmacokinetics of lamotrigine given as a single-dose in Wistar rats.
Critical pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic drug-herb interactions in rats between warfarin and pomegranate peel or guava leaves extracts
The current investigation confirmed serious drug herb interactions between warfarin and pomegranate peel or guava leaf extracts and enhanced the anticoagulant activity of warfar in in vivo and in vitro studies were consistent.
Comparative inhibitory potential of selected dietary bioactive polyphenols, phytosterols on CYP3A4 and CYP2D6 with fluorometric high-throughput screening
In comparison of in vitro inhibitory potential on CYP3A4 and CYP2D6, consumption of food or herbal or dietary supplements containing quercetin and gallic acid without any limitation should be carefully considered when narrow therapeutic drugs are administered together.
Clinical Pharmacokinetics of Quetiapine
The pharmacokinetics of quetiapine do not appear to be altered by cigarette smoking, and was reduced in 2 of 8 patients with hepatic dysfunction but not in patients with renal impairment, while dosage adjustment may be necessary when coadministered with phenytoin, thioridazine or other potent CYP3A4 inducers or inhibitors.
Rapid and cost-effective LC-MS/MS method for determination of hydroxycitric acid in plasma: Application in the determination of pharmacokinetics in commercial Garcinia preparations.
The method was successfully applied to describe the pharmacokinetic profile of HCA in rat plasma after administration of pure HCA and commercial Garcinia preparations and was highly sensitive, accurate, precise, and linear.
Effects of cytochrome P450 3A modulators ketoconazole and carbamazepine on quetiapine pharmacokinetics.
Quetiapine pharmacokinetics were affected by concomitant administration of ketoconazole and carbamazepine, and therefore other drugs and ingested natural products that strongly modulate the activity or expression of CYP3A4 would be predicted to change exposure to quetiAPine.
