The focus of this thesis lies on the theoretical investigation of low dimensional nanostructures. They are formed when the charge carriers are spatially confined below their DE BROGLIE wavelength. Of particular interest in this thesis is the influence of phonons (quantized lattice vibrations) on the carrier dynamics of strictly two-dimensional graphene and zero-dimensional semiconductor quantum dots (QDs).
