Abstract An extensive review of the technical literature was conducted in order to determine the advantages and disadvantages of the various media used for biological filtration of ozonated drinking water. Granular activated carbon (GAC) filters were found to be significantly more efficient than conventional filters such as sand and anthracite coal.
