OBJECTIVE To determine whether availability of journals on MEDLINE as FUTON (full text on the Net) affects their impact factor. MATERIAL AND METHODS A comprehensive search identified 324 cardiology, nephrology, and rheumatology/immunology journals on-line until May 2003. The status of these journals was ascertained in MEDLINE as having FUTON, abstracts only, and NAA (no abstract available). Where should family medicine papers be published - following the impact factor?
TLDR
The IF is one consideration in the decision-making process of a researcher as to where to publish because the IF of most family medicine journals is less than 2.0, so publication in these journals might not yield the proper "score" for academic promotion in many institutions.
Positive Results Bias and Impact Factor in Ophthalmology
TLDR
In the field of ophthalmology, articles with positive results are currently published in journals with a higher impact factor, which supports the ongoing occurrence of positive results bias.

TLDR
Database coverage along with gratis OA status and corresponding IF were examined in an assembled list of 72 OA pharmacy journals, with EMBASE providing the most coverage.
An exploratory analysis of PubMed's free full-text limit on citation retrieval for clinical questions.
TLDR
Health sciences librarians play a key role in educating users about the potential impact the FFT limit has on the number of citations, types of articles, and levels of evidence retrieved.

TLDR
It is demonstrated that increasing pressure on authors, editors, and reviewers to publish articles and journals with high impact factor (IF) significantly influenced publication times in ophthalmology journals.

TLDR
A significant association between SJR and scientometric features in obstetrics and gynecology journals is showed and according to this relationship, SJR may be an appropriate index for assessing journal quality.

TLDR
The IF's validity as a measure of a paper's scientific worth is examined, and alternative ways to conduct such an appraisal are considered, with the conclusion that the IF (and all measures derived from it) should be abandoned.
Authors' criteria for selecting journals.
TLDR
Journal prestige, most frequently published journal topics, and readership composition were the most important factors for initial manuscript submissions and for subsequent submissions, more pragmatic variables, such as likelihood of acceptance, gained importance.
A comparison of results of meta-analyses of randomized control trials and recommendations of clinical experts. Treatments for myocardial infarction.
TLDR
Finding and analyzing all therapeutic trials in a given field has become such a difficult and specialized task that the clinical experts called on to summarize the evidence in a timely fashion need access to better databases and new statistical techniques to assist them.
