Considering the continuous change within the German health care system, German hospitals are forced to realize efficiency gains and, at the same time, try to enhance their quality standards. Digital support systems in surgery rooms intend to improve operational efficiency and reduce failure quotas. A dataset with 383 hip joint endoprosthesis surgeries from a German hospital was analysed using statistical methods, among others logit model, odds ratio and ANCOVA. Results show that digitally… Expand

Analysis of surgical intervention populations using generic surgical process models
The computation of gSPMs is a new approach in medical engineering and medical informatics that supports increased evidence for clinical, technical, and administrative decision-making and may be applicable in more technical research fields, as well as the development of surgical workflow management systems for the operating room of the future. The application of surgical procedure manager (SPM): first experience with FESS
On the basis of available recordings it can be postulated that the application of SPM is suitable for standardization for FESS and minimal development can be recognized over a period of time. Expand
Total hip replacement for hip fracture: Surgical techniques and concepts.
Combined Ortho-geriatric care is recommended with similar post-operative rehabilitation to elective THR patients but with less expectation of short length of stay and consideration for fracture prevention measures. Expand
Hospital Quality and Patient Choice: An Empirical Analysis of Mitral Valve Surgery
It is estimated that the total societal benefits from using patient-centric information are comparable to those achievable by enabling the best surgeons to treat 40% more patients under population-average information. Expand
Complications with cement spacers in 2-stage treatment of periprosthetic joint infection on total hip replacement.
The present results showed a high risk of spacer-related complications, and thus the importance of selection of patients liable to derive real benefit and those for whom a Gilderstone procedure would be preferable. Expand

A Markov model was developed to compare the cost-effectiveness of various implants against small-head cemented metal-on-polyethylene implants and found no evidence that uncemented, hybrid, or reverse hybrid implants were the most cost-effective option for any patient group. Expand
A Cost, Profit, and Efficiency Analysis of Performing Carpal Tunnel Surgery in the Operating Room Versus the Clinic Setting in the United States
Performing either single endoscopic port or open CTS in the operating room is more expensive and less efficient than in the clinic setting. Expand
Complications of total hip arthroplasty.
For patients with hip pain due to a variety of conditions, THA can relieve pain, can restore function, and can improve the quality of life. Expand
Day surgery and hospital efficiency: empirical analysis of Norwegian hospitals, 1999-2001.
Data from Norwegian hospitals are used to test whether the proposition that day surgery spells efficiency also holds true at the hospital level, and to document significant effects of day surgery on technical efficiency. Expand
Reducing Operating Room Turnover Time for Robotic Surgery Using a Motor Racing Pit Stop Model
