OPINION STATEMENT The inflammatory myopathies, a group of chronic myopathic conditions, are potentially treatable, so proper diagnosis and early initiation of therapy are necessary. The most common types are polymyositis (PM), dermatomyositis (DM), necrotizing autoimmune myopathy (NAM), and inclusion body myositis (IBM).
