Our previous work revealed the presence of a great number of activated T lymphocytes in early human atherosclerotic lesions, and we were able to induce atherosclerosis in normocholesterolemic rabbits by immunization with Mycobacterium tuberculosis heat-shock protein (HSP) 65.
