The involvement of adherent splenic cells in the production of deficient lymphocyte responses during the acute phase of experimental Chagas' disease was investigated. When cultured together, purified adherent splenocytes from mice acutely infected with Trypanosoma cruzi caused a significant reduction in the responses of normal mouse spleen cells to T and B cell-specific mitogens.
