BACKGROUND The pathogenesis of gram-negative sepsis-induced multiple organ failure (MOF) remains to be elucidated. METHODS Blood samples were obtained from eleven patients with septic MOF, three patients with sepsis, three patients who underwent operation, and three healthy volunteers.
