A pre-embedding immunohistochemical method to detect Met-enkephalin was combined with postembedding immunohistochemistry with GABA and glycine antisera, in order to determine whether or not Met-enkephalin coexisted with either of these inhibitory transmitters in neuronal cell bodies within the superficial dorsal horn of the rat.
