Cell bodies of small to moderate-sized neurons in the female rat hypothalamus were stained specifically for somatostatin (SRIF) by means of the unlabeled antibody-peroxidase-antiperoxidase immunocytochemical method. SRIF-positive perikarya were scattered throughout the periventricular nucleus in a limited region extending from the middle of the optic chiasm to the rostral margin of the median eminence.
