In a previous study of particle-mediated DNA vaccination of pigs, it was found that administration of an influenza virus hemagglutinin (HA) gene elicited low levels of virus-specific antibody, but did not provide significant protection from challenge infection (as evidenced by virus shedding in nasal secretions).
